Yash is a musical movie directed by Sharad Saran (who later directed a movie with the Band of Boys) in 1996 with the leading cast of Bijay Anand (not to be confused with Bijoy, her mother kept the name Bijay just to make it different from a Vijay or Bijoy...), Kartika Rane, Dilip Dhawan, Mangal Dhillon, Dina Pathak, Parikshat Sahni, Ajit Vachani and Sonu Walia.

Though the movie bombed at the box-office, it became an overnight Musical Blockbuster with songs like Subah Subah Jab Khidki Khole & Yaaron Na jaane mujhe kya ho gya... attaining tremendous popularity at that time. It also gave us Shankar Mahadevan & brought veteran singer Abhijeet back into reckoning.

Synopsis

Vikram Rai (Mangal Dhillon) is a talented singer, unknown however in the singing world. Kalpana (Sonu Walia) the daughter of Kailashnath Sahai (Ajit Vachani) who is the owner of a singing company, is however won over by his singing and marries him against her father's wishes. They have a son whom they name Yash (Bijay Anand). As time passes Kalpana realises that she has married the wrong man, she deserts her husband and son and comes back to her father's house. Kalpana's desertion is a real challenge for Vikram and after sending Yash to a hostel, he works hard and eventually becomes the owner of a company. Yash turns out to be a handsome young man in love with a girl, Angel (Kartika Rane), who is the daughter of a music teacher. Yash now feels rejected by both his parents - his mother who is more in love with money and his father who has fallen in love with Asha (Natasha Sinha). After taking training in music from Mr. Joseph, he becomes pop singer and gets a lot of fame. Seeing this his mother and grandfather wish to bring him into their company to which he refuses. In order to take revenge, Mr. Sahai destroys Vikram. When Yash learns of this, he come to his father's help. Is Yash able to re-establish his father? Was he able to bring his parents together? This is the climax of Yash.

Trivia

The Film was actually an extended music video with few songs which became unexpectedly big hits like 'Subah Subah Jab Khidki Khole' & 'Yaaron Na jaane mujhe kya ho gya...'. Due to this unexpected blockbuster status for those songs, it was decided to convert it into a full-fledged movie. As the idea of expanding an album to a film was never feasible, the film sank without a trace.

The Music was given by a new talent called Tabun. He went on to give music with another composer for Subhash Ghai's 'Yaadein' in 2001.
